McGuigan Wines Awarded Trophy at 2008 Sydney Royal Wine Show

February 19, 2008: Australian Vintage is enjoying the fruits of a double celebration. Last week its most famous wine brand, McGuigan, was honoured with the ‘Leo Buring Memorial Perpetual Trophy’ at the 2008 Sydney Royal Wine Show. This prestigious award kicked off an impressive start to 2008 as the country’s second largest wine producer officially re-branded from McGuigan Simeon Wines to Australian Vintage Limited the same week.

The ‘Leo Buring Memorial Perpetual Trophy’ was presented to the exhibitor who gained the highest number of points for current vintage wines in the premium classes (25-28). This trophy heralds the talents of Peter Hall, Senior Winemaker for the McGuigan brand and recognises the exceptional quality of the brand’s portfolio.

The McGuigan wines involved in the trophy win were: 2007 Bin 9000 Semillon, 2007 Personal Reserve Chardonnay and 2007 Late Picked Traminer. In addition, the Bin 9000 Semillon continued its impressive and consistent reign winning three medals and the Personal Reserve Shiraz won multiple medals including Gold.

Other Australian Vintage brands, Tempus Two and Nepenthe also performed strongly at theSydney Show with numerous awards.

Australian Vintage CEO Dane Hudson says: “This award is true recognition of our commitment to delivering great wines to our customers. It clearly demonstrates that we are one of Australia’s quality wine producers delivering across a range of price points. Full credit must go to our exceptional winemakers and our national viticulture team.”
