John Lewis Reviews McGuigan New Releases

Uncorked with John Lewis, The Newcastle Herald, June 16, 2008

Bottler: McGuigan Hand Made Langhorne Creek Shiraz 2006
"James Evers has crafted a clinker red that showcases the excellence of South Australia’s Langhorne Creek area, now environmentally challenged by the Murray River crisis.  The wine is inky purple and has scents of sweet, ripe raspberries and nutmeg.  Profound plum flavour comes through on the front of the palate and black pepper, coffee cream chocolate and morello cherry characters combine with nutty oak on the middle palate.  Lingering, powerful fruit and minty tannins meld at the finish.  It would be beaut with sautéed kidneys, rack of lamb with bordelaise sauce or grilled eye fillet of beef with roasted field mushrooms, parsnip puree and mustard béarnaise."

McGuigan The Shortlist Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2006
"Here’s good value in an Adelaide Hills chardonnay with Burgundian characteristics.  It is light gold in the glass and has scents of passionfruit and vanilla beans.  Elegant white peach flavour shows on the front of the palate and ruby grapefruit, almond and light honey elements integrate with cashew-like oak on the middle palate.  Slatey acid refreshes at the finish.  It would team well with the chicken, goat’s cheese and leek tart, spaghetti in anchovy and garlic sauce or myrtle-crusted salmon fillets with lemon-buttered pappardelle."
